How It Works

The concept of kidsDMExchange.org is simple.  Our special needs kids outgrow their equipment or no longer need their supplies.  Instead of sending them to the "DME cemetery," why not recycle them so that other children can benefit from them?

  1. You have something that your special needs child no longers needs or uses.
  2. E-mail us directly with a photo of the item and a brief but helpful description of the item.  Also include your e-mail address so that visitors can contact you directly via e-mail.
  3. Other visitors to this site search all the listings to see if we have what their children need.
  4. Once a visitor has found your product and is interested, he or she will e-mail you directly (at the e-mail address you have submitted to us).
  5. You are then in direct contact with the other parent via e-mail.
  6. It is then up to you and the other parent/s to exchange the item, arrange shipping and payment for shipping, etc.  If you are within South Central Kansas, we have established Safe Exchange Sites.   There you can safe and comfortably meet the person with whom you will exchange your DME during normal business hours.  Please strive to complete all exchanges within 7 to 14 days.
  7. Once your item has been successfully exchanged, please contact us via e-mail so that we can remove your item/s from our listings.

This is not an auction site.  This website simply provides free listings for free durable medical equipment you would like to give to another family who may need it.  All items listed should be free.  No listings will be posted "for sale" with any dollar amount.  KidsDMExchange.org is not responsible for misuse of this site.  Individuals listing/giving items have complete discretion as to how/to whom they exchange.  Individuals listing/giving and those searching/receiving items should communicate directly via e-mail or phone to establish the exchange of items, cost of shipping, etc.  Please do not abuse this site as it was established to help families who truly need durable medical equipment and wish to share what they no longer need.

 Good-Hearted People Working in a Good-Hearted Way

If you would like to utilize kidsDMExchange.org, we ask a few things of you.  Please be safe.  Please be honest.  Please be willing to exchange your items if you are receiving items via this website.

Be safe:  If you are making a "local exchange" that does not require shipping, exchange your item in a public place.  Be sure that others know where you are going and with whom you plan to meet for the exchange.  If you are making a "local exchange" within Butler, Harvey or Sedgwick Counties (Kansas), please utilize our Safe Exchange Sites.  And keep checking in with us as there are more Safe Exchange Sites to come!

Be safe:  Only exchange information (telephone, e-mail, etc.) that you feel comfortable exchanging with a stranger.  If you are receiving a recycled durable medical item and it must be shipped, you reserve the right to have it shipped to a PO Box or another safe location.

Be honest:  If you are browsing this website with the intention of taking advantage of families with special needs children, please leave now.  We have our own struggles and enough stress as it is.  This site is meant to help and should not be mistreated.  If our website is informed of any mistreatment of this site or illegal activities via this site, we reserve the right to contact the local, state or federal authorities.

This site was created by good-hearted people for good-hearted people.  The "pass it on" concept will benefit us all.  Please do not take advantage of any visitors to this site or the site itself.

Be clean:  Please clean/sterilize products you are exchanging or products that you have received for the safety of our children!

Be willing:  The reason this site is not-for-profit and all the listings and products are free is because we feel it is the best way to help those children who need durable medical equipment.  Once done with the equipment your child receives from this site, please continue to recycle through our site.  It's the only way we all benefit from this website.
